Lebanon’s Health Minister warns against iodine deficiency in salt

Health Minister Wael Abou Faour warned Monday of the negative health repercussion that come with iodine deficiency in salt products, referring institutions responsible for making the product to the judiciary for liability in the case of failing to meet health standards.

In a press conference held today, the minister also said “all unlicensed nurseries were shut down while others were granted licenses.”

On another note, Abou Faour said “the deadline granted for clinics (to meet the proper health standards) ends at the end of July,” and warned against intimidation by resorting to political parties.

The minister also noted that “fisheries on the banks of the Assi river are feeding fish chicken intestines,” saying “the damage is huge.”

He added that Health Ministry monitors received threats following inspection, stressing that he will sue the perpetrators.
