Fugitive arrested at Beirut airport trying to flee the country

The Directorate General of General Security declared Saturday that the Lebanese citizen identified by his initials as A. M. H. was arrested at Beirut International Airport, while he was attempting to leave the country, heading to Venezuela through Turkey, using a forged passport.

In a statement issued by the directorate, the arrestee, who has been a fugitive since 2001, is wanted on several arrest warrants carrying a punishment that reaches the death penalty.

The man was wanted for committing several crimes including affiliation to a terrorist group Fatah al-Islam, forming a terrorist network in order to carry out explosions targeting Italian and Ukrainian embassies, as well as Internal Security Forces bases and carrying out attacks against restaurants and supermarkets across Lebanon.
