Berri’s top adviser tells Axios Hezbollah is ready for full ceasefire with Israel

Senior adviser to Lebanese Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri, Ali Hamdan, told Axios that Berri informed the Trump administration on Sunday that Hezbollah is ready for an immediate and comprehensive ceasefire with Israel, with a commitment to guarantee its implementation.

Hamdan said he contacted U.S. Ambassador to Lebanon Michel Issa on Sunday and conveyed, on behalf of Berri, that Hezbollah would be prepared to fully commit to a complete ceasefire, adding that Lebanese officials are ready to guarantee the arrangement.

According to Hamdan, the Trump administration had presented over the weekend a proposal for a partial ceasefire under which Hezbollah would stop targeting northern Israel, while Israel would refrain from striking Beirut.

“The proposal we received was no Hezbollah attacks on northern Israel and that in return Israel will not bomb Beirut and then gradually the ceasefire will expand to other areas,” Hamdan said.

He added that Speaker Berri's reply was, "Why a partial ceasefire? Let's have a full ceasefire."

Hamdan said Berri instead proposed a full ceasefire covering land, air, and sea, while also requiring Israel to halt the demolition of homes in southern Lebanon.

Axios reported that Hamdan indicated Berri maintains a communication channel with Hezbollah, allowing him to exchange messages with the group’s leader, Sheikh Naim Qassem, who is reportedly in an undisclosed location for security reasons.

"We are sure Hezbollah will commit to a total ceasefire. We think it will be more productive. We know time is running out,” Hamdan said.
