Finance Minister Hassan Khalil: Attack on airport customs chief is unacceptable

Finance Minister Ali Hassan Khalil said on Sunday that the attack on the head of the Customs Administration at Beirut International Airport one day earlier is “unacceptable,” vowing to continue his crackdown on smugglers.

Khalil’s comments were made at a news conference after visiting the office of Samer Diaa at the airport.

He also hailed the security forces for arresting two of the assailants immediately after the incident took place, stressing that “no one should think that the airport belongs to a particular side.”

The state-run National News Agency reported on Saturday that the Lebanese army arrested two Lebanese nationals after an attempt to assault the customs chief at the airport.
