Washington to allocate USD 150 million grant to LAF next year – Ambassador Hale
US Ambassador to Lebanon David Hale declared Friday that his country will allocate a USD 150 million grant to the Lebanese Armed Forces next year, in addition to the grant of USD 59 million dedicated to border security assistance, which was announced last week.

Following his meeting with Prime Minister Tammam Salam at the Grand Serail, Hale said that Washington is responding to Salam’s request during his speech at the ministerial meeting of the International Support Group for Lebanon, stressing that “the Lebanese army is the only legitimate institution tasked with defending Lebanon and its people.”

Regarding the presidential issue, the ambassador reiterated that true political leadership has to be elected by the Lebanese parties, hoping that the Lebanese leaders will take decisive measures to resolve the presidential deadlock through the election of a new president the soonest possible.
