Patriarch Rai: Hezbollah must be deprived of its pretenses

Maronite Partiarch Mar Bechara Boutros al-Rai asked France and other countries on the reason why they are not overseeing the implementation of U.N. Security Council resolutions, adding that they must do so “so that Hezbollah is deprived of its pretenses”.

On Syria, Rai said that Syrian President Assad should be given a chance since "he has started the reform process in Syria".

“I support constitutional and political reforms of all kinds; I support public freedoms, coexistence and respecting minorities”, Rai said after meeting with President of the French National Assembly Bernard Accoyer.

“We have to know where we’re going. Are we heading towards civil wars from which Christians will suffer the most, like in Iraq? Are we heading towards regimes that will be tougher on minorities, mainly Christians? Are we really heading towards what is referred to as “the new Middle-East" which stipulates dividing the Arab World into sectarian mini-states? This is, in fact, our major concern”, Rai added following his meeting with Accoyer.
