Why was ICC's Lebanese interpreter Helene Assaf arrested in Libya?
Helene Ghassan Assad, the interpreter of the International Criminal Court’s delegation was arrested in Libya along with Australian lawyer Melinda Taylor on charges of espionage and establishing contacts with the enemy.

Assaf and Taylor were placed in pre-trial detention for 45 days on Monday after being arrested last Thursday along with the delegation of four.

The family of Helene tried to urge the Lebanese state to release her as soon as possible.

Minister of Interior Adnan Mansour told LBCI that the ministry is waiting for the end of investigations with the arrested team, while sources from the ministry announced that the Lebanese charge d’affaires in Tripoli, Hassan Saleh, will attend a meeting for the ICC in Libya to be briefed on the latest developments and the measures to be taken.
