Introduction to the evening news 13-07-2012

More than 150 people were killed, in one go, in the Tremseh massacre.   

The regime and opposition, as usual, exchanged accusations over the massacre. However, UN-Arab envoy Kofi Annan, whom the opposition dubbed as “servant of Assad and Iran”, seemed out of patience as he indirectly accused the regime of being responsible for the massacre. Annan said he was "shocked and appalled" by news of "intense fighting, significant casualties, and the confirmed use of heavy weaponry such as artillery, tanks and helicopters" in the village of Tremseh.

While the Free Syrian Army criticized the “silence” of Brig. Gen. Manaf Tlass, the businessman brother of the defected general, Firas Tlass, made public statements in which he voiced support of the Syrian revolution, calling for civil disobedience across Syria. He stressed that Syrian President Bashar Assad “is not part of the solution”.   

While Fridays have become an occasion for anti-regime protests across Arab countries, in Lebanon, sectarian conflicts had their share of the protests.

From Tripoli to Sidon, Islamists staged a protest, denouncing the “injustice” they are facing in the country.    

This move comes simultaneously with the LAF deployment along the northern border.
