Damascus residents in Lebanon tell LBCI about their ruined city

The number of Damascus residents who fled the violence sweeping through their city reached tens of thousands.       

LBCI met with thousands of Syrians in Aley, Bhamdoun and other mountainous regions coming from the Syrian al-Midan neighborhood, Kfar Sousa and Kaboun. They did not carry a lot of luggage; they only brought enough supplies for a week or two at most, hoping to return as soon as the situation calms down.           

The Syrian displaced told LBCI about their last hours in Syria before entering to Lebanon through the border. ; their stories included “bullets, killing and massacres”.      

All these displaced do is talk about Damascus, the city that is “no longer the same”, the city they fled before being killed by its sudden madness.       

Between fleeing bullets in Damascus and spending the holy month of Ramadan, Syria’s wealthy chose the second option and chose Lebanon as a destination. As for Damascus’ poor, they still have nowhere to run, and the Lebanese government is looking into the possibility of sheltering them in public schools that could or could not accommodate them.
