The ministerial committee in charge of the salaries and rank scales held a meeting at the Grand Serail led by PM Najib Mikati in the presence of State Minister for Administrative Affairs Mohammad Fneish, Labor Minister Salim Jreissaty, Defense Minister Fayez Ghosn, Minister of Economy Nicolas Nahas Interior Minister Marwan Charbel, State Minister Panos Manjian, Education Minister Hassan Diab, State Minister Marwan Kheireddine and the Finance Ministry’s director general Alain Bifani.  

Upon leaving the Serail, Khalil voiced his optimism saying “we have come a long way in regards to the [rank’s] figures, but we still need another session to reach a final solution”.      

For his part, Jreissati said “We will resume our discussions in a session expected to be held next Tuesday at 2:30 pm”.       

Earlier on Wednesday, during a meeting with ministerial members in charge of the salaries and ranks scale bill, Mikati received a delegation from the Syndicate Coordination Body to resume discussions over the Body’s demands regarding the salaries and ranks series.      

Following the meeting, Minister Diab said that many points have been agreed upon, adding that talks revolved around ranks. Diab said that Mikati, the ministerial committee and the cabinet will spare no effort to guarantee communication between all parties in regards to the ranks in secondary education and in the administration.       

Diab stressed that the ministerial committee promised to ratify ranks at cabinet by the end of August at the latest, hoping that this will be done before Eid al-Fitr.
