The US Embassy in Beirut issued a statement on Friday announcing that “on 14 August, the US government and Lebanese Armed Forces (LAF) officials oversaw the delivery of 150 High Mobility Multipurpose Wheeled Vehicles (HMMWVs) at the Port of Beirut via the ship, Liberty Pride.”
“These vehicles, as well as radios, ammunition, and spare parts, are valued at nearly $58 million and were delivered as part of the US government’s Protected Mobility program, which supports the LAF’s border security and counter-terrorism missions,” the statement continued.
The embassy added that this contribution demonstrates the United States’ ongoing, long-term commitment to Lebanon’s security.
Since 2006, the United States has provided over $2.3 billion in assistance to Lebanon, it pointed out.
