47, 000 Syrian refugees in Lebanon as academic year draws near

The number of Syrian refugees in Lebanon has increased to exceed 47, 000, including 37,000 registered with the UNHCR and more than 9,000 on the waiting list.

The UNHCR weekly report points out that the majority of the refugees are present in northern Lebanese border villages.

There is no more room for refugees in these areas which come under regular shelling by the Syrian side.

According to the report, the UNHCR is pondering means to enroll the refugee children in school so that they do not miss their academic year.
