Speaker Nabih Berri commented Wednesday on the events that occurred on Tuesday night in Hamra Street, saying that “speaking on behalf of the parliament, he strongly condemns last night’s incident in Beirut in general, and in Hamra in particular.”
“I do not accuse certain people, nor accuse the civil movement; it was something planned and intended by a group of unknown people,” he added, stressing the need to hold the perpetrators accountable regardless of their sect.
“Is the aim to destroy the country? Beirut is our capital that belongs to all; it doesn't belong to one rather than the other,” he noted.
Berri was cited as saying during Wednesday’s deputies gathering that there is a major progress in the cabinet formation process, adding that he is waiting for the meeting to be held between him and the PM-designate.
On the budget session, the deputies quoted Berri as stating that the budget sessions will be held on the 22nd and 23rd of January, unless the cabinet was formed before, in which case the budget session will be preceded by the confidence vote session.
