Family of slain Sheikh Abdul Wahed call for issuance of warrants against Syrian officials

Slain Sheikh Ahmed Abdul Wahed’s brother Alaa, called on Wednesday for the  reopening of his brother’s case, calling on judges who released the affiliated Lebanese officers and soldiers to issue warrants against a number of Syrian officers after documents were presented through a Pan-Arab TV channel.

The documents allegedly lead to the involvement of Syrian officers in the murder plot against Sheikh Abdul Wahed and companion Mohammad Merheb.                  
In a press conference for the defense of the “heirs of Sheikh Ahmed Abdel Wahed”, Alaa called on President of the Republic Michel Sleiman, and Prime Minister Najib Mikati to convene an emergency Cabinet session in order to transfer the case to the Judicial Council.               

He warned of large movements in coordination with the Future Bloc the March 14 should the top officials not heed his calls.                  

On Tuesday, Al-Arabiya published what it alleged is a “leaked Syrian security document” giving the green light to “liquidate” some Lebanese figures affiliated with particular religious sects.                      

Sheikh Ahmed Abdul Wahed and Sheikh Merheb were killed by gunfire after failing to stop at the LAF checkpoint in Kwaykhat on May 20th. Sheikh Ahmed was heading to the rally held by the partisans of MP Khaled Daher to commemorate the memory of the May 7 victims.
