Makari hopes Jumblatt will wear his jeans again and loosen his necktie

Deputy Parliament Speaker Farid Makari rejected that “the four indicted in Hariri’s killing are not connected to Hezbollah”, a statement he described as “heresy”.

Makari elaborated that March 14 forces’ reaction to such an accusation did not measure up to its gravity, adding that “March 14 forces should have, accordingly, boycotted the cabinet and taken a drastic stance against it.” 

Kuwaiti newspaper Al-Siyasa quoted Makari on Sunday as saying that “If Hezbollah and General Michel Aoun adopt political pragmatism, they will approve the STL funding.”  “But if they [Hezbollah and Aoun] uphold their current position, they will, accordingly, prevent Mikati from funding the court”, he elaborated, adding that “Mikati will then have to face two options: to yield or resign.”

Commenting on MP Walid Jumblatt’s recent position on Syria and on the saying that “Jumblatt switches positions more than he switches clothes”, Makari said “I don’t think that Jumblatt has changed his clothes at any given moment. In fact, he distanced himself from certain events, for he had a gun pointed at his head, as he said. However, he has never disavowed any of his strategic principles.”

“When Jumblatt puts on his jeans again and loosens his necktie, which is squeezing his neck, be relieved, for that will be a sign that the times have changed”, he added.
