Anti-Lebanese protest in Ivory Coast takes a turn for the worst
Tens of young people from Ivory Coast (Côte d'Ivoire) took to the street on Sunday in a protest that targeted a high-class neighborhood where Lebanese nationals live. The demonstration, that took a violent turn, was staged to protest the death of two Ivory Coast citizens who were killed when policemen intervened to stop a fight between them and a Lebanese businessman.

Security sources told AFP that a mob of more than one hundred angry young people took to the streets in Markoy, a neighborhood in the eastern part of the economic capital, throwing stones at buildings, seeking out those owned by Lebanese nationals.

A police official described the situation as tense, adding that the Lebanese took refuge in their homes.

The Ministry of Interior told AFP that the protests took a turn for the worst and riots were triggered following the death of the two citizens whose identities are still unknown.
