Prime Minister Najib Mikati met on Tuesday with papal ambassador to Lebanon Archbishop Joseph Spiteri.

Following the meeting, the archbishop said that the talks were amicable, pointing out that they discussed “the initiative they can take together, with the Islamic and Christian religious institutions, to provide Lebanon with social assistance, in order to help the poor and look into ways to help schools and other organizations that works with the poor.”

Asked about a possible visit from Pope Francis to Lebanon soon, Spiteri  said “hopefully”, adding however that the visit will not happen any time soon because of some practical and technical matters.
