President Aoun: I see no reason to delay parliamentary elections

President Michel Aoun held a meeting on Saturday with Lebanon's Grand Mufti Sheikh Abdel Latif Derian, whereby he stressed that "today, more than ever, Lebanon needs the people's solidarity and support for the state and all constitutional institutions."

They also discussed the difficult social and economic conditions that the country is going through, and the importance of cooperation between all parties and components to get out of the current crisis.

"I underlined to Derian the role played by the Sunni community in preserving Lebanon's unity and political diversity, as well as the importance of participation with all other components of Lebanon in the national and political life,” the President stated after the meeting.

He added that they tackled Lebanon's relations with the brotherly Arab countries, and that they both agreed that the best and strongest relation should be established, with the focus remaining to maintain civil peace and stability in Lebanon.

"We are making all the necessary preparations to hold the elections on time, and I see no reason to delay them," Aoun indicated.
