The families of those who were killed in the Talkalakh ambush will
stage a protest following Friday prayers before the Mansoura Mosque in Tripoli’s
Nour Square.
Their protest comes in the wake of an undetermined delivery date for
the bodies of 6 of the victims, with 4 other bodies unidentified. 3 other
Lebanese nationals who remain in the custody of Syrian authorities will later
be broadcast on Syrian television, sources said.
Sheikh Mohammad Ibrahim will be delivering a word following the prayers
on behalf of the families who have insisted on keeping their cause strictly
humanitarian and void of politicization. In this regard, the Tahrir party was
not invited to participate in the sit-in.
The families had visited the Director General of General Security Major
General Abbas Ibrahim last Wednesday whereby they pleaded that the delivery of
their “sons” be accelerated.
In this context, the head of the committee commissioned to follow up the case of the bodies, Sheikh Mohammad Ibrahim delivered a speech in which he criticized "the silence of the Lebanese state."
The Sheikh added that a security commander confirmed that citizen Hassan Srour is detained in Syrian prisons.
He also urged the authorities to dismiss Syria’s ambassador to Lebanon. “We don’t want the ambassador of 'crime' in Lebanon, and Mikati should contact his 'criminal' ally to bring back those who are still alive,” he stated.
Ibrahim then threatened that the relatives of the victims killed in Syria will be taking escalatory measures if the bodies are not returned within 2 days.
In this regard, PM Najib Mikati met with the head of General Security Major General Abbas Ibrahim at the Grand Serail.
Ibrahim
informed Mikati about the latest updates concerning the transfer of the
bodies from Syria, emphasizing that the delivery will be conducted once
the bodies are identified.
On
the 30th of November 2012, reports emerged saying that a number of Lebanese
nationals died in a Syrian ambush in the bordering town of Talkalakh.
At least 14 Lebanese and Palestinian gunmen from north Lebanon
were reportedly killed, with three wounded and detained in the ambush. Syrian
state television aired graphic video of the dead men, riddled with gunshot
wounds and lying in the grass.
