Mikati: Safety and security are essential and exist in Lebanon

Caretaker Prime Minister Najib Mikati assured on Wednesday that work at the Beirut Rafic Hariri International Airport is proceeding as best as possible, stressing readiness to address any flaws.

Mikati confirmed, following a tour of the airport with the ministers of works, interior, tourism, and industry in the caretaker government, that safety and security are essential and exist in Lebanon, revealing the intensification of meetings with the ministers of interior, defense, and security apparatuses to increase the number of security personnel.

This comes as Minister of Works Ali Hamieh announced that the ministry will launch an international tender for the construction of the airport's eastern building, explaining that it will create hundreds of jobs and include all services not currently available.

For his part, Minister of Interior Bassam al-Mawlawi reassured that security in Lebanon is in good condition and the summer is promising.

"With regard to the kidnappings, the security forces were able to free the kidnapped in less than twenty-four hours," he added.

Meanwhile, Tourism Minister Walid Nassar stressed importance of positivity, adding that Lebanese are "stubborn with love their country", noting that they expect that between 10 and 12,000 people will arrive in Lebanon daily.

In a separate context, Mikati stressed, with regard to the issue of demarcating the maritime borders, that he would not fail to invite the Cabinet when necessary, stressing that he would hold a meeting with President Michel Aoun.

He stressed that he will not expose Lebanon to any risks, considering that the issue would be resolved with high diplomacy.
