Siniora: Funding the STL is a debt that Lebanon must pay

The head of the Future Movement bloc MP Fouad Siniora said that funding the Special Tribunal for Lebanon (STL) is a “debt that Lebanon must pay”, adding that the rumors to the contrary will not change anything.

Following his meeting with former PM Omar Karami, Siniora said that the agreement conducted between Lebanon and the STL is in the hands of the UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon, who should hold talks with the Lebanese cabinet and the UNSC.

On the other hand, Karami stressed that neither the cabinet nor the Parliament will agree to funding the STL. “I do not know how PM Najib Mikati intends to keep his word”, Karami said.

Karami added that funding the STL will cost the state $600 million, wondering: “How will they manage to come up with that kind of money?”
