Aoun: Lebanon in peril, may be on brink of civil war

Following the Change and Reform bloc meeting on Tuesday, FPM Leader MP Michel Aoun held a televised press conference.

Aoun noted that the security situation in the country is dangerous, and alerted that incitement will lead to civil war, reiterating that real equality is the only way to remove sectarianism.

He also asserted that the Orthodox Gathering's proposal was passed after being studied by the joint committees.

In this context, he noted the possibility of referring this draft law to Parliament for ratification.

He called on all parties rejecting the Orthodox Gathering's proposal to lean towards holding the elections according to one single district.

"I don’t see why the Orthodox Gathering’s proposal is anti-constitutional," he added.

Aoun pointed out that the draft law proposed by the Orthodox Gathering does not violate the rights of anyone.

On the issue pertaining to the ranks and salaries series, Aoun suggested several taxes that "don’t affect low-income families".

As for the teachers’ strike, he noted that the parents are being pushed to the limits by the measures the teachers are taking, calling for a swift solution in this regard.
