UCC kicks off Teachers' Day ceremony at UNESCO Palace

The Union Coordination Committee (UCC) kicked off on Thursday Teachers' Day ceremony at the UNESCO Palace, vowing to carry on its strike until the new wage scale is referred to parliament.

Earlier in the day, head of UCC Hanna Gharib stressed that the outrage voiced by the teachers and employees will not fade unless the series of ranks and salaries is referred to the parliament, taking into the retirees' rights into account.

Presiding the sit-in organized by the UCC on Thursday outside the tenders administration building in Verdun, Gharib said that the figures announced by the Economic Committees are false .

"He who violates the maritime properties is not entitled to talk about the budget deficit," Gharib added.

In this regard, Gharib called for heavier participation from all ministerial employees in the face of the "corrupt officials". He also called on students to join in the fight on Teachers' Day.

The Union Coordinating Committee launched its open ended strike on February 19th 2013 after making repeated called on Prime Minister Mikati to validate the new salary scale and consequently refer it to Parliament for ratification.
