MP Aoun calls on authorities to control rising influx of Syrian refugees

The Free Patriotic Movement (FPM) Leader MP Michel Aoun held a televised press conference on Tuesday afternoon whereby he called for the prosecution of "those who exploited public funds, demanding a special tribunal to look into financial issues in order to bring those violations to an end."

Following the Change and Reform bloc's weekly meeting, MP Aoun addressed several pending topics facing the country. Regarding the parliamentary elections, Aoun called on security forces and the Higher Defense Council to gaurantee that the elections be held on time adding that “all those boycotting the parliamentary sessions to avoid voting on the Orthodox Gathering’s electoral draft should be held accountable for any political void”.

“Some political factions want to hold the elections on the basis of the 1960’s electoral law,” MP Aoun said.

As for the issue of the Syrian refugees, MP Aoun said that authorities should control and limit the rising influx of refugees and refrain from admitting "anyone who does not need urgent care".

"Countries that are providing fighters with arms should be the first to host the Syrian people since their financial situation allows them to bear the responsibility and provide good living conditions," he said.

“We question the measures taken, or lack thereof, in light of the increasing influx of refugees to the Lebanese territories,” MP Aoun added.

In regards to the wage scale, Aoun said that the bloc is preparing a list comprised of funding sources should the cabinet fail to refer the file of the series of ranks and salaries to the parliament.
