Speaker Berri: Dialogue is key to form a new government

Speaker Nabih Berri called Monday on politicians to benefit from the resignation of the government to pave the way for dialogue in a bid to find a solution for the controversial issues in the country, stressing that dialogue is crucial in the formation of a new government.

In this context, Berri met with a delegation from the Progressive Socialist Party (PSP), including Public Works and Transportation Minister Ghazi Aridi, Social Affairs Minister Wael Abou Faour, the Minister of the Displaced Alaa Edin Terro and the caretaker Finance Minister Mohammad Safadi.

Prime Minister Najib Mikati announced the cabinet's resignation on Friday after talks deadlocked over the extension of Internal Security Forces chief Major General Ashraf Riff's mandate and the formation of an Election Supervisory Committee.
