Kanaan calls on Speaker Berri to hold vote for Orthodox law

A meeting was held between representatives from the Amal movement, Hezbollah and the Free Patriotic Movement at parliament on Wednesday.

Following the meeting, FPM MP Ibrahim Kanaan delivered a statement whereby he reiterated the stances voiced by the March8 partisans in regards to the Orthodox Gathering draft law, calling on Speaker Nabih Berri to hold a meeting for the General Authority to hold a vote on the draft law.

"We believe in the security of this nation, and stability can only be maintained by holding the parliamentary elections on their constitutional date as opposed to facing political void."

Kanaan stressed that the Orthodox law preserves coexistence since it provides fair representation to all components of the Lebanese political spectrum, adding that no other law has been agreed upon.
