Charbel and Jreissati tackle the dossier of Aazaz' detainees and Georges Abdallah

General Security Chief Abbas Ibrahim held a meeting on Monday with Caretaker Interior Minister Marwan Charbel whereby he briefed him on the contacts being held in regards to the Lebanese pilgrims kidnapped in Syria's Aazaz.

In this context, the ministerial committee tasked with finding a settlement to this case as well as to the case of the Lebanese detainee Georges Abdallah held a meeting in the Interior Ministry under the chairmanship of Caretaker Labor Minister Salim Jreissati who said that Charbel pointed out to 'positive developments' in this regard.

In addition, Jreissati said that there are 'positive signs' that may lead to the release of Lebanese detainee Georges Abdallah.

Abdallah was jailed 28 years ago for attacks on U.S. and Israeli diplomats in France, even though French law limits the maximum sentence of any prisoner to 18 years.

He was accused of engaging in commando operations carried out by the Lebanese Armed Revolutionary Factions and the 1982 murders of U.S. military attache Charles Robert Ray and Israeli diplomat Yacov Barsimantov; the court was not able to present concrete evidence against him in this regard so far.

Eleven Lebanese pilgrims were kidnapped on their way back from Iran by insurgents hoping to use them for a prisoner swap on the 20th of May. Only two have so far been released.
