PM-Designate Salam: No political party shall be given veto power

Prime Minister-Designate Tammam Salam stressed on Thursday that the government to be formed must encompass qualities that would serve the country's national interests inline with the 'critical phase' facing Lebanon.

In this context, Salam held a meeting with a delegation of the heads of Kesserwan municipalities Federation in Msaytbeh whereby he pointed out that contacts are underway with all political forces in order to draft a governmental formula that comes for the benefit of Lebanon in light of the upcoming parliamentary elections.

In addition, PM-Desginate Salam said that no political party shall be given a blocking third (veto power) in the government, noting that this concept did not pay off in the past, adding that he is keen on the principle of rotation of governmental portfolios.

Salam also noted that "the delay in the formation of the government is ascribed to the lack of trust between the Lebanese political parties".
