REPORT: Families of Aazaz hostages stage sit-in outside Turkish Embassy

       
Families of the Lebanese hostages in Aazaz staged yet again on Wednesday a sit-in outside the Turkish Embassy in Rabieh whereby they called on the Turkish Ambassador to Lebanon Inan Ozyildiz to leave the country, holding the Turkish State responsible for the failure to release the nine Lebanese detainees.          

In this context, the families prevented anyone from entering the Embassy while they hoisted photos of Aazaz hostages as well as the pictures of the two abducted Bishops in Syria, Youssef al-Yaziji and Yuhanna Ibrahim.            

It is worth noting that the families of Lebanese hostages wrote a letter to Ambassador Ozyildiz whereby they rejected his stances and warned against dire repercussions should the detainees not be released by the 22nd of May.             

Eleven Lebanese pilgrims were kidnapped on their way back from Iran by insurgents hoping to use them for a prisoner swap on the 22nd of May, 2012. Only two have so far been released.           

Their families have vowed to continue their movements until all their loved ones have returned home "safe and sound".          

They accuse Ankara of sponsoring the kidnapping and the Lebanese government of inaptness in this regard.           

Over the past month they held major demonstrations in Martyrs Square before the Turkish Airline Offices whereby they announced that they would be calling for the boycott of all Turkish products in Lebanon since "Lebanon imports a billion dollars’ worth of products from Ankara on a yearly basis."           

They have also prevented Syrian workers from opening shop in areas across the Southern Suburbs of Beirut, mainly Hay el-Sellom.
