Number of candidates for parliamentary elections reaches 706

The door to submitting electoral candidacies was closed on Monday midnight while the number of candidates reportedly reached 706 running for the upcoming parliamentary elections.        

In this context, Caretaker Interior Minister Marwan Charbel said "the ministry is braced for holding the parliamentary elections on the 16th of June," pointing out that "Caretaker Foreign Minister Adnan Mansour is also ready for the expatriate vote on the 6th and 9th of June".           

Charbel also said that the country is facing two options: holding the elections or extending the parliament's mandate, adding that safe offices can be used to hold the elections should the situation in Tripoli remain volatile.
