Constitutional council receives the appeal of Sleiman to the extension of parliament's mandate

     
The constitutional council received on Saturday the appeal submitted by President Michel Sleiman to the law pertaining to the extension of parliament's mandate.        

For his part, Sleiman said that he has decided to sign the extension before the constitutional council rather than deferring the session, hoping that the said council will study the appeal by adopting an entirely neutral and legal perspective.        

In a question directed at Sleiman over signing the extension and appealing it later on, he pointed out that "Article 19 of the constitution does not allow to appeal the extension before the constitutional council ahead of signing the parliament's decision".       

In this regard, sources told LBCI that President Sleiman will call on the parliament to hold an extraordinary session to consider the  possibility of holding the parliamentary elections on their due date or deferring them for technical reasons.           

Earlier in the day, the law pertaining to the extension of the parliament's mandate was published in the Annex to the Official Gazette.
