How social media and celebrities are helping Victims of Typhoon Haiyan in the Philippines

As the Philippines tries to rebuild from the unbelievable damage Typhoon Haiyan has created, celebrities are trying to do their part to help those in need.

Rihanna has donated $100,000 (£61,000) to help those affected by Typhoon Haiyan in the Philippines. She has pledged the money to the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) and is encouraging her fans to offer whatever they can.

The singer said: "Emergencies make headlines, but the recovery continues long after the news cameras leave. "Having been a fan and supporter of UNICEF's work over the years, I am honoured to join them in helping children who have been impacted by Typhoon Haiyan. "More than five million kids in the Philippines need our help. UNICEF is there for them today, and for the long road ahead, and so am I."

Jessica Alba and the Honest Company, her toxin-free natural household product company, made a generous donation to the victims through Operation USA. The retail value of the products is $51,445, according to Alba's company.

Rosario Dawson, who is an active member of Operation USA's board, is also supporting the relief efforts and is assisting with a fundraiser to help raise money for recovery.

Barbra Streisand and her foundation, The Streisand Foundation, is pledging "a major monetary donation."

Judd Apatow and Leslie Mann, also contributed by supporting United Airline's Crowdrise fundraiser for Operation USA.
