Jordan’s king: failure to reach peace will put region on the brink of the abyss

King Abdullah II of Jordan said Tuesday that failing to reach peace between Israel and the Palestinians will put the country on the brink of the abyss.

In a letter he sent to the president of the U.N. General Assembly’s Committee on the Exercise of the Inalienable Rights of the Palestinian People, King Abdullah said that the region is going through unprecedented changes, and is in dire need of making a historic achievement by reaching a global and just peace that will protect it and its people.

The king said that the Arab states spoke unanimously in the name of global and just peace based on the two-state solution. This solution guarantees the establishment of an independent, sovereign and viable state within the 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as a capital, the only way to end long decades of Palestinian-Israeli conflict.
