Tunisian army sweeps through southern region
A military official said that the sweeping operations carried out by the Tunisian army continued on Thursday in southern Tunisia following violent clashes with an armed group that entered the country coming from Algeria where it was wanted.

Colonel Mukhtar bin Nasser told AFP that these insurgents came from Algeria where they were wanted,and passed into Tunisia through a rugged and sparsely populated region.

As army maneuvers continued, a 9-car convoy opened fire Wednesday morning on a Tunisian army helicopter that was patrolling a region located 80 km from the Algerian border.
