Thousands of Islamist activists rallied in Amman

Thousands of Islamist activists rallied in Amman on Friday to protest against recent constitutional changes they deemed insufficient and called for the dismissal of the government.
Under the motto: "You will not fool us", protesters from the Muslim Brotherhood movement and its political arm, the Islamic Action Front (IAF), marched through the center of the Jordanian capital calling for major constitutional changes.

The Islamist-led opposition is seeking to trim the powers of the king, who has the power to appoint and dismiss governments. The Islamists say governments should be formed according to a parliament majority.

While being spared the widespread civil turmoil that has this year shaken and in some cases toppled regimes across the Middle East and North Africa, Jordan has seen weeks of protests with people calling for wider political reforms.

Earlier this month, the parliament endorsed minor constitutional amendments to allow the establishment of a constitutional court and creation of an independent committee to run elections.
