Russia denies being Assad’s defense lawyer

Russian Foreign Ministry denied being the defense lawyer of Syrian President Bashar Assad, at a time when Russia is being criticized for using its right to VETO against a U.N. resolution against Syria.

The Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement that the pursuance of violence is totally unacceptable, condemning the Syrian regime’s crackdown on peaceful protests. “We cannot ignore the fact that the extremist opposition is using the resentment of one part of the population with crystal clear extremist intentions to adopt the tactic of open terrorism”, the statement added.
