Hale: Arab spring could oust Hamas

The U.S. Ambassador for Middle East Peace David Hale said Thursday that the “Arab Spring” could oust Hamas movement if the Palestinian authorities were to reach “tangible” results in the peace talks with Israel.

“Hamas will be swept from power only when the Palestinian people are compelled to make a real choice between peace and violence”, Hale said addressing the Chicago Council on Global Affairs.

He added that the Palestinians are not immune from the change movements and the appeals for democracy, reform and freedom. “They are no different from the other populations of the region”, he said.
