REPORT: Heavy clashes flare up in Qalamoun’s barren range
The British-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said “heavy clashes have been taking place since early Monday in Qalamoun’s barren range”.     
 
“The clashes are pitting Hezbollah fighters and Syrian regime forces against Nusra Front and Islamic factions’ militants,” the observatory said in a statement Monday.    
 
“The battles were coupled with rockets - most likely ground-to-ground missiles - which landed on areas of clashes,” the observatory reported.     
 
It also said that “the Nusra Front targeted Hezbollah bases in a preemptive strike as the group was due to start its operations in Qalamoun in the next few days”.          
 
“Preliminary reports say both sides suffered casualties,” the observatory added.
