Justice Minister Ashraf Rifi rejected Wednesday the request presented by the Syrian judiciary, whereby it called for handing over Hannibal Gaddafi to Syrian authorities.
Earlier in the day, the attorney of detainee Hannibal al-Qaddafi, Bouchra al-Khalil told LBCI that an official memo was issued by the Syrian public prosecution to retrieve Hannibal al-Qaddafi.
On Monday, Investigative Judge Zaher Hamadeh issued an arrest warrant against son of ousted Libyan leader Moammar Gadhafi, Hannibal, on charges of hiding information in the case of disappeared Imam Moussa al-Sadr in 1978.
Sadr and his two companions, Sheikh Mohammad Yaacoub and journalist Abbas Badreddine, went missing on August 31, 1978, during an official visit to Libya.
Hannibal, who resides in Syria, was kidnapped last week in Damascus before Internal Security Forces’ Information Branch freed him Friday.
Hannibal had moved to Damascus from Algeria after his father was deposed and killed four years ago, following the uprising in Libya. He is married to Lebanese Aline Skaff from Zahle.
