Russia to establish 12 new military bases

Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu announced on Friday that his country will establish 12 new military bases in the country’s west in response to the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) reinforcement of its forces and its expected expansion in Finland and Sweden.

"By the end of the year, 12 military bases will be established, and units will be deployed in the western military district," Shoigu told officials from his ministry and the army, citing increased military threats on the Russian border.
