Airlines call for civilian flights not to be targeted in Middle East

Airlines called on Monday for civilian flights to not be targeted during the conflict in the Middle East after airports were struck.

"It is critical that states respect their obligation to keep civilians, and civil aviation free from harm," said Willie Walsh, head of the International Air Transport Association.

"We all hope for an early peaceful resolution to the current hostilities," added Walsh, whose association unites more than 360 airlines that account for 85 percent of commercial passenger traffic.
