REPORT: Investigations at military court continue as Nawaf Hussein denies previous confessions

Military Investigative Judge Nabil Wehbe interrogated Nawaf Hussein, who is accused of being involved in terrorist acts and transporting booby-trapped vehicles to Lebanon.

In this regard, Hussein’s attorney Tarek Chandab stressed, in a statement to LBCI that his client denied before the judge what he has been accused of during the preliminary investigations, as well as all the confessions presented by Omar al-Atrash.

Chandab noted that his client confirmed being subject to physical torture and psychological pressure during the interrogations.

Hussein’s denial comes a day after al-Atrash also denied before Judge Wehbe that he had transported booby-trapped cars and explosive belts into Lebanon.

Similarly, al-Atrash said that his confessions that included Nawaf Hussein came under pressure.

On another note, the attorney of al-Qaeda-linked militant Naim Abbas presented on Tuesday a formal written plea in the case of Jamal Daftardar to the Military investigative Judge Imad Zein.

The Lebanese Armed Forces Intelligence bureau arrested suspect Nawaf Hussein early February after Omar al-Atrash confessed that he was involved in transporting explosive-laden vehicles used in attacks carried out in several Lebanese regions.

The Lebanese Army Intelligence arrested Omar al-Atrash Friday January 24, on charges of being involved in recruiting suicide bombers, smuggling rigged cars and explosive belts and planning terrorist attacks. On Sunday 25 January, al-Atrash confessed to bringing car bombs, explosive belts and suicide bombers to Lebanon.
