REPORT: Abdul Latif Saleh announces ceasefire in Lebanon’s Tripoli, death toll rises to 4
The media official of the Arab Democratic Party Abdul Latif Saleh told LBCI on Friday that the party has announced a ceasefire and will mediate with the victims’ families in Tripoli’s Jabal Mohsen in a bid to quell the situation.      

Cautious calm is prevailing in Lebanon’s northern city of Tripoli with sporadic sniping operations being heard.          

This comes as citizen Fouad Al-Saytari was wounded by sniper fire in the morning in Tripoli's al-Qobbeh square.        

Sources told LBCI on Friday that Lebanese Armed Forces units, deployed across the city, arrested 4 gunmen in al-Qobbeh, noting that they will secure the road linking al-Malloula to Abou Ali and will firmly respond to any aggression.            

Meanwhile, the death toll from Tripoli's clashes that started on Thursday rose to 4 after citizen Asma Harrouk succumbed to her wounds in Tripoli’s governmental hospital and citizen Tarek Abbous died of chest wound.            

The number of the wounded reached 35 in Bab al-Tabbaneh and 6 in Jabal Mohsen, one of whom in a critical condition, in addition to 2 LAF soldiers who were injured today.

The port city of Tripoli has long been a stronghold of Sunni Islamists in northern Lebanon.

But the city has become increasingly volatile in recent months due to the civil war in neighboring Syria, where the Sunni majority is leading a revolt against President Bashar al-Assad.

Disputes from neighboring Syria's civil war frequently inflame sectarian grievances in Tripoli.

These clashes pit gunmen from both the mostly Sunni Bab Tabbaneh district and the Jabal Mohsen district which mostly comprises residents of Syrian President Bashar Assad's Alawite sect, a Shiite Islam offshoot.
