REPORT: FPM leader Aoun says presidential entitlement is gateway for key achievements
“The presidential entitlement is the gateway for key achievements in Lebanon,” Change and Reform bloc leader MP Michel Aoun said in a press conference on Monday.

“The Lebanese state cannot go on without the election of a new president,” he said, noting that the current power vacuum undermines the legitimacy of all powers.

MP Aoun also stressed that his bloc did not disrupt the parliament’s work, adding that efforts will be exerted to end the presidential void the soonest possible.

Lebanon officially entered presidential vacuum on Saturday midnight after the six-year term of former President Michel Sleiman expired.

This comes after lawmakers failed for the fifth time to choose a successor to the head of state. The impasse highlights the stark political divisions in the country.

Sleiman said on Saturday that dialogue was the only way to overcome deep divisions in a country that is struggling to cope with political and security problems as a direct consequence of the Syrian conflict.
