REPORT: Muslim Scholars Association says Chichani’s wife not involved in security issues

“Had the Roumieh Islamist prisoners been released from the beginning, we wouldn’t have reached the current result in the file of the kidnapped Lebanese troops,” the Association of Muslim Scholars said on Tuesday, following a meeting with Justice Minister Ashraf Rifi.

“It has been revealed that Alaa al-Okaily, the wife of Abu Ali al-Chichani, is not involved in security issues,” said Sheikh Salem al-Rafei, the head of the Muslim Scholars Association.

On December 05, Abu Ali al-Chichani, a commander of the Islamic State militant group, threatened Lebanon and its army, warning against the failure to release his wife.

“The Lebanese Army Intelligence arrested late on Monday the wife of Anas Charkas, an official of the Qaeda-linked Nusra Front,” sources reported on Tuesday (December 02).

The official’s wife was detained along with her brother Rakan in the Zgharta region of Hilan.

“Charkas, also known as Abu Ali al-Chichani, is involved in the case of the kidnapped Lebanese troops,” the sources added.
