Tensions shy off participants in Beirut International Film Festival

Beirut will launch the 12th edition of its international film festival at the Planete Abraj theaters on October 3rd. However, this year’s festival will be the most modest compared to previous years. This is partly due to the tense situation in the country highlighted by the latest incidents. As a result, a number of countries banned their nationals from traveling to Lebanon to partake in the festival.

57 films divided into 7 categories will be shown for 8 days; most importantly films on the Egyptian uprising and the role of Christians in Syria.

A section entitled “Human Rights Watch” will be dedicated for movies tackling human rights.

The festival will be inaugurated by “A Matter of Seconds”, a movie by Lebanese director Lara Saba.

The situation in Lebanon may be like a movie, but for 8 days, the Lebanese will watch movies that could help them forget their bitter reality even if only for a short while.
