Guterres visits Naqoura, tours Blue Line-[REPORT]
UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres visited on Tuesday the United Nations Interim Forces In Lebanon (UNIFIL) headquarters in the southern city of Naqoura.

Guterres was received by UNIFIL head of Mission and Force Commander Major General Stefano Del Col and senior International officers.

He also headed to Del Col’s office whereby a meeting was held during which he was briefed about the UNIFIL’s operations and its role in south Lebanon.

Guterres then toured the blue line along with General Del Col.

Later in the day, he visited Tyre's rest house, whereby he met with civil society representatives.

During a press conference at the end of his visit to Lebanon, Guterres stressed that “justice must be achieved in Beirut Port blast file through a transparent investigation.”

Additionally, Guterres pointed out that parliamentary elections must be free and fair in order to be an opportunity for the Lebanese people to cast their votes, stating that “they are facing great challenges.”

“It is required to resume negotiations with the IMF, to develop a recovery plan as well as to mobilize the international community,” Guterres highlighted, indicating that “officials must bear the responsibility.”

He concluded by saying that “the International Community will not respond as long as it does not see reforms, and there are some measures that must be taken in Lebanon.”
