REPORT: Lebanese Parliamentarians united by ‘civil love’

Amid the ongoing controversy over civil marriage, LBCI met with Change and Reform bloc MP Simon Abi Ramia who married via a civil court in France in 1997.

Abi Ramia told LBCI that he will spare no effort to make sure the optional civil marriage law in Lebanon is ratified, hoping that he would be one of the signatories on the personal status law which would grant the Lebanese the right to wed by civil means.

Abi Ramia stressed that adopting civil marriage would neither mean “atheism” nor constitute an obstacle hindering the exercise of religious rituals.
