United Nations urges Iraqi political class to get out of impasse
The United Nations envoy to Iraq Jeanine Hennis-Plasschaert urged the Iraqi political class on Tuesday to end the impasse that has plagued the country's institutions for more than seven months, warning of the dangers of popular unrest.

Hennis-Plasschaert told reporters after a regular session of the UN Security Council on Iraq that she always looks for the bright side, but that it is time for a change and for Iraqi political leaders to step up.

The UN envoy warned of popular unrest in Iraq, adding that "they cannot allow a return to the conditions we witnessed in October 2018," referring to the country's bloody protests.
