Prime Minister Tammam Salam stated on Sunday that his meeting with House Speaker Nabih Berri is periodic; pointing out that Berri is exerting his efforts to end the presidential deadlock.
In this regard, Salam told An-Nahar newspaper that Speaker Berri is counting on local incidents and facts mainly talks held between the Future Movement and Hezbollah in order to reach an agreement pertaining to the election of a new president.
As for the security operation in the Bekaa, PM Salam hailed the efforts exerted by security forces, expressing his hope that these operations spare the country any potential danger in light of the ongoing regional conflicts.
On another note, PM Salam voiced his discomfort regarding the work of the government, stressing that Lebanon's political situation is having negative repercussions on the productivity of the cabinet.
Future Bloc MP Ahmad Fatfat stated on Sunday that hearing the testimonies of political witnesses during the trial sessions of the Special Tribunal for Lebanon is the right track to reveal the identity of those who assassinated former Prime Minister Rafic Hariri.
Hariri told the Kuwaiti newspaper As-Seyassah that Hariri’s assassination is a political crime, stressing that the appearance of Syrian President Bashar Assad’s phone number on the phones of certain suspects is a suspicious matter.
